Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) entered “final stage”, the president announced. He emphasized that while certain preferences conflicting with WTO rules were abolished, the government remains committed to supporting businesses and fostering a fair competitive environment.
US trade representative Katherine Tai had meetings with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and several ministers in Tashkent. The ambassador reaffirmed the intention of the US to support Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, and to resume granting trade preferences under the GSP system.
US trade representative Katherine Tai will visit Tashkent and Samarkand on 11−12 June. She will meet with president of Uzbekistan and other officials. She will also attend the US — Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement Council meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan.
